Gold jewellery for men: Elegance and dignity

In the history of patriarchal society, like many other things, wearing valuable jewellery was the privilege of men.

The jewellery for men can be divided into two groups according to their functions. One type is worn as and accessory the other represented status. During the course of history, from ancient times there were jewels which were exclusively worn by men. In the beginning there were nose ornaments, armlets, amulets, tribe chief ornaments which symbolized togetherness. Later on rings and other types of jewels appeared which symbolized commercial status. Since human society is mostly patriarchal and was in the past, therefor wearing different types of jewellery as a symbol of status was the privilege of men.

In the beginning, tribal chiefs, warlords, secular and ecclesiastical leaders wore the most valuable and most special jewels. Signet rings had validating function from early on; therefore they signed different types of written commands, laws, commercial agreements, and ecclesiastical orders.
