What is there to know about white gold?

White gold is the most popular metal nowadays for wedding and engagement rings as well, also this is the hardest alloy.

White gold alloy, apart from pure gold contains nickel and palladium and other alloying metals which change the original yellow gold colour to whitish. To call this alloy whitish is not a coincidence since the alloying metals cannot turn yellow gold to white, so white gold alloy has a yellowish hue. This hue is barely visible, you can see it for example if you put jewel on a piece of snow white paper.

A well-known method to perfectly whiten whit gold is to apply rhodium. The whole jewel is covered by a few micron thick layer of rhodium by a galvanizing process and since the colour of rhodium is pure white, it whitens the white gold wedding and engagement rings completely.

It is important to know that those white gold alloys which contain nickel can cause an allergic reaction to metal sensitive wearers. That is why we only use nickel reduced alloys in our jewellery. Also we apply the earlier mentioned rhodium cover to minimise the risk of allergic reactions.
